Binga baskets, also commonly called Tonga baskets are traditional baskets handmade by the Batonga people in the Binga district of Zimbabwe. Hence the name Binga.
Most are characterized by a round, flat shape that display easily on walls, although sometimes they are shaped like a bowl or vase. These are brown and natural colored, and are lightweight with a sturdy rim.
The natural blonde neutral color is enhanced with beautiful geometric designs. In order to get these beautiful intricate designs, tree bark dye is used.
Binga/Tonga baskets are an exciting way to bring traditional African crafts into your contemporary home! Hung in clusters as wall art, they are spectacular.
Great on a tabletop too.
